Finely crafted fly rod from the noted Manchester Vermont retailer. This 3/2 rod has all sections straight and full, assembles to 7 1/2'. Shaft is marked "Orvis Impregnated Battenkill 7 1/2' - 4 1/4 oz HCF (7)". Though top of last digit on shaft serial number resembles a four, it was originally a nine with some wear. All sections bear matching number 70039. Each section has over varnish on serial ID or written model information. Nice blued ferrules, snake guides, walnut reel seat. Displayed in a handsome 8 1/2" tall domed glass display, this mint 2 3/4" fly is presented on an attractive quartz crystal. Bottom plaque reads "Catonephele Numila - Peru - The Western Tragopan Tied by Paul Schmookler." Catonephele Numila Neogermanica is the nomenclature of a butterfly more commonly referred to as the Spotted Velvet, a species native to South America, of which a mounted example is included. Schmookler created the fly utilizing a dyed feather from the plumage of the rare Himilayan pheasant. A beautiful display showcasing the talents of the master tyer.Price: $600 | |
